Canada wines want to get more of the Chinese market !
Every year, Chengdu has welcome a fair, the 2016 China Food and Drinks Fair, in the capital of Sichuan province. During two days, Canadian wineries have shown their product among 14 exhibitors for 21 canadian wineries. The biggest scale since 2014 for Canadian pavilion, according Canadian ambassador in china, Guy Saint-Jacques.
Export market of canadian Wine
According to Global Trade Atlas and Statistics Canada, China became the 2nd bigger Canadian table wine market and, more surprising, the first and bigger canadian icewine, with a total of exportation of 6,260,000 $ in 2015
Guy Saint-Jacques, Canadian ambassador declared “Canada is a small but excellent wine-producing region. The market share of Canadian table wine and icewine is growing in the world, especially in China,”
Ice Wine Market
He added Chengdu represents the perfect wine and ice wine market : “The wine consumption in Chengdu kept rising in the past decade, and I’m glad to see more and more people interested in Canadian food and wine”
Icewine is very successful in China, Everett de Jong as export director of Pelee Island winery, has seen his winery at the fair, kept rising. An increase from 10% to 15% every year, and he participates to this fair since 9 years. One of his colleague, Liu Zhiqing who is working in the same company, said west of China is a developing market, because people want to know more about Canadian wine.
But, icewine price is a little bit more expensive than others wines, however Liu is convinced his customer will prefer quality than quantity and will forget price for this reason. He is very optimistic about success in west of china of its wines.
